Born in Chester-le-Street , County Durham, Lynch turned professional in 2010 after two seasons in Sunderland 's academy . [ 4 ] In 2008, Lynch signed his first professional contract with the club. [ 5 ] He was called up into the first team in April 2011, and made his professional debut on 30 April, coming on as a substitute in their 3–0 home loss to Fulham in the Premier League . [ 6 ] Two months later in July, Lynch signed a two-year contract with the club. [ 7 ] Under the management of Martin O'Neill , it was announced that Lynch would go out on loan to gain first‑team experience. [ 8 ] On 8 September 2012, he joined Football League One side Hartlepool United on a one-month loan deal. [ 9 ] Lynch scored his first goal for the club, in a 3–1 loss against Colchester United on 27 September 2012. [ 10 ] Despite losing 3–1, Manager Neale Cooper praised Lynch performance, as well as, his goal.
